About the Role 

We are hiring a senior Linux kernel engineer to work on the core memory-management pieces of a tiered memory system for Android and embedded Linux devices.  

This role is focused on kernel implementation. You will work in areas such as zram, zswap, swap, cgroups, page fault behavior, block I/O, and storage-backed memory. The ideal candidate is a strong C developer who enjoys debugging hard kernel problems and validating changes on actual hardware.

Primary responsibilities

  • Implement kernel features related to compressed memory, swap, and storage-backed memory tiers. 
  • Work with zram and/or zswap paths. 
  • Add cgroup or memcg-based memory policy. 
  • Build low-overhead kernel counters and instrumentation. 
  • Debug race conditions, stale data issues, page lifecycle bugs, locking problems, and bio completion behavior. 
  • Work with Android platform and validation engineers to test changes on real devices. 
  • Help improve system responsiveness and app retention under memory pressure.   

Minimum qualifications

  • 6–10 years of Linux kernel, Android kernel, embedded Linux, or low-level systems experience. 
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience 
  • Strong C programming skills. 
  • Experience debugging kernel code on real hardware. 
  • Familiarity with Linux memory management, block I/O, device drivers, or kernel concurrency. 
  • Comfortable with dmesg, sysfs, procfs, ftrace, debug counters, and kernel logs. 
  • Ability to work carefully in performance-sensitive and correctness-sensitive code paths.   

Preferred qualifications 

  • Experience with zram, zswap, swap, reclaim, or memcg. 
  • Android kernel or GKI module experience. 
  • UFS, eMMC, NAND, or storage performance experience. 
  • Experience with per-CPU counters, workqueues, kthreads, bio/request handling, or blk-mq. 
  • Interest in Android memory pressure and app retention behavior.
